The Baroque
Join us for the grandeur and severity,
the mysticism and sensuality of the Roman Baroque through the work of its most
valuable players . . .
From Bernini’s ‘Ecstasy of Saint Teresa’
to Borromini’s San Carlo, the magnificent trompe l’oeil ceilings of the Gesu
and Sant’Ignazio, with a break for one of Rome’s best coffees at the Piazza
Sant’Eustachio, then on to the great fresco cycles in the Chiesa Nuova and
Sant’Andrea della Valle – before lunch at Da Francesco’s for Rome’s best
antipasto; in the afternoon we’ll cross the ‘Bridge of the Angels’ to the
piazza and interior of Saint Peter’s Basilica, where we’ll experience a
wizardry woven from the artistic ingredients of pagan antiquity . . .
